We are thrilled to be working with Lyttelton Engineering again on a very special calendar that celebrates Whakaraupō Lyttelton Harbour. This year’s calendar has images from Motu-kauati-rahi Cass Bay local Peter Morath. Peter was a well known photographer and artist and his beautifully detailed pictures provide a wonderful view of Lyttelton in the 1970’s. His collection of images of Lyttelton and surrounds was gifted to the Museum, have now been digitised and will soon join our online collection. Our 18,000 plus images were digitised after the Canterbury Earthquake sequence and many have only a few details attached, so if you know something we don’t, please tell our collections team.
Lyttelton Museum lost its home in the earthquakes of 2010/11 but the Lyttelton Historical Museum Society Inc. is working hard to keep the spirit of the old museum alive and the collection accessible to the community. Christchurch City Council gifted us a site on London Street in the very heart of town and early in 2023 we obtained resource consent for a proposed new museum. All we need now is the money to build it! By buying this calendar you are helping us with our fundraising campaign.
